Here at Worldwide Cubicle, we are always looking for great gear that makes traveling easier. About the last thing you probably think about when packing your bags is your wallet. But having a good system for carrying cards and cash can make a big difference between having a fantastic trip and having one cut short because of theft or loss. Here, we take a quick look at a very small and discrete wallet that you should probably be bringing with you on your next trip.
Let’s face it. Wallets aren’t exactly thrill-inducing. They don’t make your heart race, like, say, a calculator or new hoodie. But a good wallet will help you stay organized and prevent stupid things like leaving all your money in a hotel room or taxi, or getting jacked in the backstreet of some urban sprawl.
One company that we absolutely love is Bellroy. Bellroy makes beautiful, functional high quality wallets that emphasize function, typically in a small form factor. No George Kostanza wallets, exploding with receipts.
We were thrilled to get our hands on one of their Very Small Wallets and test it out on a few recent trips through Southeast Asia.
First off, we really like SMALL wallets. It’s safer to carry your wallet in a from pocket. If it’s small enough, it won’t be too uncomfortable or too noticeable. We also really like change-purses especially in countries where coins have value — either because of their denomination or because of their utility for things like paying for transportation.
The Bellroy Leather Pocket Card Wallet is very small indeed. Just slightly bigger than a credit card in length and width. Perfect.
To store your bills in the Card Wallet, you fold them in thirds. It’s fast and easy. Despite it’s diminutive size, we were able to store a wad of 35 bills, folded in thirds, along with a few credit cards and a handful of change. The fit is tight, but you probably wouldn’t be carrying so much cash around with you at all times anyways.
As we mentioned, we also like the Card Wallet because it serves as a very handy change purse too. When we’ve used it in destinations with high-value coins (Canada’s Twoonies, UKs 1 pound coins, or 500 Costa Rican Colones), the zippered design of the Very Small has kept our coins safe and secure in one place. In other places like Southeast Asia, it’s great to have a stack of small denomination coins available for buses or motocy taxi trips.
When the Pocket Wallet is new, the zipper can be a little tough to open and close. But the leather quickly softens and opening and closing works fluidly.
Like all Bellroy wallets, the Bellroy Leather Pocket Wallet is impeccably made. The overall design is beautiful, the leather is soft and comfortable to hold, the stitching is perfect.
If you are looking for a small day-carry wallet for traveling — particularly in countries where coins have monetary value or great utility — we highly recommend checking out Bellroy’s Leather Pocket Wallet. You won’t be disappointed.
